Actor Richard Gere |
Richard Gere is set to testify on Capitol Hill today before the Foreign affairs Committee on the status of the Tibetan Policy Act. The legislation became law in 2002 during the Bush administration. The actor, a longtime advocate for the Tibetan people has testified before Congress before on this issue. Tibet which is recognized as an occupied nation has been an albatross for U.S. and Chinese relations for many years. In 1950 the People's Liberation Army of annexed Tibet, negotiated the seven point agreement. This gave the People's Republic of China sovereignty but granted autonomy to Tibet.
